Specific Card Analysis #10 (Mimicwurm)

On the tenth (ACHIEVEMENT GET!) edition of the SCA, we go over the ever neglected Mimicwurm.

With an extremely lacklustre level one, but an extremely potent creature later on the game, Mimicwurm is very similar to Palladium Simulacrum, in that they both scale well, but are extremely irrelevant if they aren't levelled. As such, it is also a win condition.

Another notable feature of Mimicwurm is that you get to choose where each Wurm goes, which can lead to sweet sweet value of the potential triple blocking quality that is unique to Mimicwurm. (Scatter the Seeds is random, doesn't count.)

Again, its major drawback is that it needs to be levelled to even have a shred of relevance, and its level one is really small. Hence, making the most of your Mimicwurms early on is the key to make them work.

Synergies

Tarsus Deathweaver

Very simple, makes your spawned Wurms bigger. Also plays nicely with Dysian Broodqueen (see below). Good enabler.

Dysian Broodqueen

'Trading' a level one Mimicwurm for a another creature is pretty cool. Furthermore, even at later levels, Dysian Broodqueen can make make great use of the 3/3 Mimicwurm always spawns. Forces you into U/N however.

Killion, Infinity Warden

Sneak levelling a Mimicwurm is pretty great, and although both their bodies are pretty similar as level 1, the one more attack Killion has makes that much better. Levelling a Mimicwurm 2 to 3 with Killion 3 is also hilarious.

Lifeblood Dryad

Given that Mimicwurm can fill the majority of the board with a single play, it works extremely well with this lady over here to pump up your board and serve as an extra creature.

Example Decklist

3x Mimicwurm
3x Tarsus Deathweaver
3x Dysian Broodqueen
3x Soothsayer Hermit
3x Weirwood Patriach
3x Thundersaur
3x Xithian Direhound
3x Grimgaunt Doomrider
2x Stygian Lotus
2x Ferocious Roar
2x Lifeblood Dryad

Conclusion

As always we hope that you enjoyed this week's SCAs, and remember to vote in the poll to the side for next weeks two SCAs.
